Well, you can’t really, it’s ice so unless it is kept in a freezer it’s going to eventually melt. 😢
However, don’t despair! There are things you can do to slow the melting process and enjoy your ice sculpture for as long as it’s needed even if you can’t keep it forever! 😁
Your sculpture will arrive at its destination wrapped in bubble wrap. If it is more than one piece (there are usually at least two) they will be wrapped individually. This helps keep them cold for longer as well as providing a protective cover during transportation.
One of the most important things to consider is where the ice sculpture will be placed, as once it has been set up it can’t be moved (a question we also get asked a lot) due to its weight. An average ice sculpture weighs between 50-80kg.
So, what do you need to consider?

#1 – Heat
It is important not to set the ice sculpture up anywhere near to direct heat sources such as radiators, or overhead heating. This one is usually obvious but if it’s in a small room it can sometimes prove to be quite tricky. Where possible you need to keep it as far away as you can from any radiators.
#2 – Air Conditioning
A not-so-obvious one, this one. Many people think that by placing the ice sculpture close to an air-conditioning vent it will keep it colder for longer. The problem with this is that the moving air will have the opposite effect and cause it to melt FASTER than normal.
#3 – Open Windows
Like air conditioning – the same principle applies to open windows. Any type of breeze blowing in through the windows will have the same effect as air conditioning – it’ll cause your sculpture to melt faster.
#4 Direct Sunlight
Again, this one seems like another obvious one – nobody is going to put ice outside in direct sunlight, right? But what you need to remember is that the sun moves. ☀️ So, think about how the sun will move throughout the day and make sure that it won’t land on the ice sculpture at any point, or at least not during the main part of the event.
#5 Wind
The wind has the same effect on ice sculptures as air conditioning and open windows – it can cause them to melt faster. So, if there’s a breeze about, it’s best to place your sculpture in a more sheltered area. Better still, check the weather forecast in case a breeze/wind is forecast for that day.
As far as positioning is concerned our team will advise you at the time of set-up if they think it’s not the right place for your ice sculpture to be situated. Ultimately it’s your choice but if you want it to last – take the advice of the experts!
If all these guidelines are followed, we guarantee that our ice sculptures will last for a minimum of eight hours with very little melt. In fact, it will only have lost a few of the details.
