Congratulations and a huge well done from all of the PSD Ice Art team to Joe Francis at ‘Gardens for Good’.
They were awarded with a very well deserved Silver Medal at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2017 for their garden called ‘The Power to Make a Difference’.
Our ice sculpture sat at the center of the display and slowly melted during the course of the flower show. The garden was entered in to a new category for 2017 called ‘Gardens for a Changing World’ which explored how we need to adapt our gardens for the future.
Easy does it! Each block weighs 120kgs!
The ice sculpture sat on a circular base of ice which was carved on site to fit the garden design exactly. Here’s Percy in action.
Joe asked us to freeze in some irises in to the ice which you can see in the lower level blocks.
Unwrapping and putting in position very carefully!!!
Our very own ice sculptor Andrew Salazar was interviewed on BBC Radio Surrey too – he chatted to the breakfast presenters about how we made the sculpture and why the message behind the garden is so important.
…and here it is – the finished ice sculpture!
There are some beautiful photos on the RHS Website:
….and a 360 view of the entire garden;
Plus the garden and ice sculpture were featured in the BBC 1 RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show highlights on Friday 7th July…we’re about 33 mins in to the programme;
Here’s Joe’s video showing what happened when he came to visit our ice studio in Surrey to meet us and to discuss the plans for his garden design. As you can see sculpting ice is trickier than you think!
