We wrapped up warm and braved the freezing conditions at the first ever Special Olympics Great Britain Polar Plunge event, held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
Hundreds of valiant plungers – including the youngest member of our PSD Ice Art family! – boldly jumped in to 20,000 litres of ice cold water to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics GB athletes.
We entertained the plungers and their friends and families, by carving an amazing ice Polar Bear right in front of their very eyes, live on the day.
Our lead sculptor Percy used 4 blocks of ice and spent several hours sculpting the beautiful bear which provided a welcome distraction for the teams and individuals taking part in the event whilst also helping to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Sarah Ball, Director of Special Events at SOGB, was absolutely delighted with the ice bear as it was such a huge hit with the visitors. It was even strong enough for some courageous participants to sit on!
