Put very simply, we don’t use ordinary tap water to make our ice.
The water we use passes through our purification system, which removes all the impurities and leaves it the cleanest, clearest water possible. But that’s not the only thing we do with it.
The water is then poured into a bookmaker approximately 1m x 50cm x 25cm and left to freeze from the bottom up. Pumps are placed just under the surface of the water which keeps it moving while it freezes. This happens from the bottom up so it is important to remember to remove the pumps after a while otherwise they will get frozen in!
The freezing process is usually around 3 days for a full block, although it can take as much as 5 days during a hot summer.
And there you have it – beautiful purified crystal-clear ice ready to be carved!
