With the opportunity to win a life changing start-up fund worth £50,000, as well as access to professional mentoring and coaching from a panel of business experts, young entrepreneurs in the South East have been competing to win the coveted Young Start Up Talent Award.
We are extremely proud to sponsor Young Start Up Talent, which is a community based initiative helping 16-25 year olds who have an entrepreneurial flair for business, to make their dreams a reality. The initiative works with over 100 local and national businesses, who all contribute to the products and services fund provided to the successful candidates, in each of the seven geographical areas currently covered.
As sponsors we also provided two impressive full colour logo ice sculptures at the showcase events, held at both the Sea Life Centre in Brighton and The Lingfield Marriott Hotel.
Our very own Nicky Salazar joined the judging panel, where the budding young entrepreneurs eagerly pitched their ideas and explained their business plans to get through to the final selection and go on to the showcase.
The final five candidates then pitched to a subsequent judging panel – Dragon’s Den Style! – which was filmed and broadcast at the showcase event, before the eventual winner was revealed.
The standard was incredibly high and we were so impressed with all of the entrants. There were however, two very worthy and notable winners. For the Brighton and Hove area, a University of Sussex student won the award. Nick Musto is a 22 year old whose app ‘Radar’ is designed to allow students to save money on nights out.
Winner of the Gatwick Diamond area was ‘Juby-Lee Bakes’, a group of seven autistic students led by Simon Tomlinson, who have set up their own bakery in Horsham with the tagline ‘Special bakes by special people’. Their aim is to create incredible tasting food whilst inspiring other young adults like themselves.
We are feeling incredibly inspired and will be following and supporting them as much a possible – definitely ones to watch.
